"Hungry like the Wolf."
Sisters Ginger and Brigitte are obsessed with each other and death. When Ginger is attacked by a mysterious beast one night, her sister helps to hide the wounds. To their surprise, the wounds heal very quickly, after which Ginger begins to behave increasingly strangely.

Pretty entertaining high school horror. And it's amazing how the transformation into a werewolf is intertwined with the changes every girl goes through on the road to being a woman. Although I know women for whom the time of the month brings more behavioral changes than for Ginger in this very nice movie.

Ginger Snaps is one of those slightly more famous horror movies that I had to watch again. Yesterday there was finally a moment for that and then I threw the film on. Have to say the movie started off better than I expected but soon starts to fade.
It's a shame because the film introduces two very different main characters. Suicide references will never be accepted in the present day, so that I now see that in a teen movie from a time when people were even less interested in it is special. Too bad it's unthinkable now in 2020.
Furthermore, the acting is nice, especially Perkins takes the lead. Nice unique character who knows how to be very captivating especially in the first half hour. In the end, she does lose her magic a bit when it becomes clear which direction the story is going. Once that direction is known, it all starts to get less and less interesting.
Visually not too special. The first scenes are great, after that it weakens to a few bright spots. The camera work is certainly on-point, but the timing and editing a bit slow. The sets also lack some atmosphere and once the horror really comes into play, it all starts to become fairly transparent.
The horror can even be called a bit boring towards the end despite some gory scenes. Werewolves just aren't that interesting in this movie. The final really suffers a bit from this. Furthermore, it all mainly remains with a few separate moments and unique main characters, but that is also worth mentioning. It all takes just a little too long.
