The Thing plot
"Man is the warmest place to hide."
Members of an American scientific research in Antarctica are forced to battle against an unknown parasitic alien organism capable of imitating any form of life. Those effects of the 80s are horribly good, it's a shame that almost everything comes from the computer today. What monstrosities of 'things' were created here. Very good film with a strong soundtrack that builds tension and an excellent Kurt Russell. It was actually immediately clear to me that the film was going to be built around him, which makes sense because he is a great actor. These kinds of locations always work, mainly because you can't go anywhere. All you can do is make the most of it. Trust is also an important theme of this film and is very well developed, just like the story. Because the movie plays with the fact that you can't trust anyone not even Kurt Russell it's hard to trust someone and bond with them.
That computer too, what a funny thing with a pixel or 100. I never lived in the 80's myself but it's great to go back to that time

Striking how this film looks dated in terms of digital equipment, costumes and amounts of hair and facial hair, but not in terms of action, tension and uncompromisingly unsentimental ending. The totally isolated and unchanging primordial landscape is partly to blame for this, but it is mainly due to the film style and the lucid personality behind it. In fact, this could also be a 2022 film set in 1982, underscoring its timelessness. No comedic or ironic one-liners to ease the tension (which would also be inappropriate in this movie), subdued music that doesn't overwhelm or "exaggerate" the action sequences anywhere, and FX that are still distasteful – that upside-down head on giant spider legs is an archetypal nightmare image as far as I'm concerned.
