The Dead Pool plot

"Dirty Harry Just Learned A New Game."

Thanks to Harry Callahan, a mobster ends up in jail, but this action places himself as the eighth name on a kill list (On this list there are really only celebrities, but when Callahan comes on it it gets interesting). People get to bet on who they think will be last alive. One of the players is a horror director. A rock star in his movie is on the list and dies on set.

Great last Dirty Harry movie with plenty of innovation. Dirty Harry movies are always slightly different from police or action movies. The action remains simple, the detective work is usually very limited. The emphasis is more on politics and psychology. This part also stays true to that formula.

It takes a look at the horror film and media world, with a nice supporting role especially from Clarkson, the first who looks like a love interest for Callahan in the film series (or I should count Sondra Locke from Sudden Impact). Some psychological depth here and there that you wouldn't immediately expect... the killer may be less impressive than Andrew Robinson in the first film, but is a better developed psycho. Furthermore, questions are repeatedly asked about how far the media can go. The bizarre car chase with the toy car including bomb is creative.

Callahan's new partner provides some light-heartedness and an immediate sneer is thrown at the political correctness veiled racism of politicians (Callahan has become a well-known media figure by incarcerating a major mafia boss and they want to make a good impression with his Asian partner. ..look how progressive we are! ).

Neeson is indeed flat and a bit miscast in his role...a grumpy director who everyone hates and who sees himself as a typical misunderstood genius, would show a little more emotion. But it doesn't bother.

Biggest surprise is Jim Carrey as a heroin addicted hard rocker who plays a kind of Axl Rose when making a clip (the music is also by Guns & Roses!). At the time, both were clearly not (just) known enough.

More of the same after part three and once again it doesn't get any better. What still stayed with me from previous times, Jim Carey and the rather unrealistic but no less entertaining chase with the radio controlled car.

Dirty Harry is back, although a bit older and grayer, the approach, walk and weapon remain the same. Have to say that apart from some disagreements with the chief and some journalists, he still gets along well with his partner, something that has also been different. As age increases, he seems a bit milder. A fairly simple plot about an obsessed fan unfolds, Jim Carey in the beginning is comical, the Guns 'n Roses song is fun, the chase with the radio controlled car is exciting but not particularly believable. I can't imagine that such a thing can keep up with a normal car, let alone that the perpetrator drives that thing while chasing it himself.

Least of all parts but still quite entertaining.

Reasonable film in which a number of famous people on a death list die one by one. This last and also least part of the Dirty Harry series has a somewhat far-fetched plot compared to the rest (the bad-guy is also a disappointment). Clint Eastwood is entertaining again and the best action scene is definitely the one with the radio controlled car. Also nice to see Jim Carrey in a small role at the beginning of his career.
