Agatha Christie's Poirot plot

When the Germans invaded Belgium in 1914, the civilian population was hit hard. Many Belgian citizens flee to the neutral Netherlands or to England. One of them is Hercule Poirot, a former police officer. Poirot is lovingly cared for at Styles St. Mary in England and develops an affection for his new homeland. After the war, he settles as a private detective in London, in a flat in Whitehaven Mansions. He teams up with former British Army officer Captain Arthur Hastings and his secretary Miss Lemon.

Reviews & comments

"Death on the Nile" was a slightly disappointing film adaptation of the book. They just wanted too much. An attempt has been made to visualize the strong story from A to Z. As a result, this TV episode is too long and occasionally downright long-winded. When one has finally arrived at the denouement, it can hardly be called exciting or unexpected.

Normally I am very positive about this impressive series, but in this case I can't get further than a meager '3'.

"The Hollow" is another one of those stories you put down a few times (in book form), only to pick up again later. On TV, that's a bit tricky unless you've recorded the episode or bought it on DVD.

It's another long, drawn-out effort to get to the end. The acting isn't the problem. However, the story as a whole is tedious and drags on. The somewhat surprising ending makes up for a lot (but not everything). A frugal '3.5'.
