Agatha Christie's Poirot plot

When the Germans invaded Belgium in 1914, the civilian population was hit hard. Many Belgian citizens flee to the neutral Netherlands or to England. One of them is Hercule Poirot, a former police officer. Poirot is lovingly cared for at Styles St. Mary in England and develops an affection for his new homeland. After the war, he settles as a private detective in London, in a flat in Whitehaven Mansions. He teams up with former British Army officer Captain Arthur Hastings and his secretary Miss Lemon.

The first episode of this second season has a double length, because in it a novel is adapted for the first time. Then it's short stories again. They continue in the same vein, with Hastings, Lemon and Japp in almost every episode. For humor, a parrot or a cinema visit is brought in. A few chase scenes provide some action. Poirot claims he can solve a crime without leaving his flat. The interwar atmosphere is excellently reproduced.

Favorite episodes: 1, 5, 6, 8.

"The Disappearance of Mr. Davenheim" is yet another fun, lighthearted episode. For a change, there is no murder to solve, but rather the mysterious disappearance of a banker. As a result of a bet, Poirot is housebound and must unravel and solve the case from a distance. Needless to say, he succeeds almost effortlessly, whether with the cooperation or (unintentional) obstruction of his friend Hastings.

Nice to see the beautiful actress Mel Martin, whom we also know from the racy episode "Fun Times for Swingers" from the series "A Touch of Frost".

I find the predictable ending a minor downside. You don't need to have read the book to see this coming well in advance...
