Agatha Christie's Poirot plot

When the Germans invaded Belgium in 1914, the civilian population was hit hard. Many Belgian citizens flee to the neutral Netherlands or to England. One of them is Hercule Poirot, a former police officer. Poirot is lovingly cared for at Styles St. Mary in England and develops an affection for his new homeland. After the war, he settles as a private detective in London, in a flat in Whitehaven Mansions. He teams up with former British Army officer Captain Arthur Hastings and his secretary Miss Lemon.

"The Big Four" is another one of those episodes that's a bit disappointing. Agatha Christie herself, incidentally, considered this one of her least-good books.

To the filmmakers' credit, they omitted or adapted quite a bit from the book, ensuring the story feels reasonably logical and maintains its pace. One could even say the episode is only loosely based on the book. Nevertheless, the story is far-fetched and downright unrealistic. Poirot also lacks the characteristic humor and charisma of previous episodes.

If I had to rate "The Big Four" separately, I wouldn't get much further than a frugal '3'.
