Agatha Christie's Poirot plot

When the Germans invaded Belgium in 1914, the civilian population was hit hard. Many Belgian citizens flee to the neutral Netherlands or to England. One of them is Hercule Poirot, a former police officer. Poirot is lovingly cared for at Styles St. Mary in England and develops an affection for his new homeland. After the war, he settles as a private detective in London, in a flat in Whitehaven Mansions. He teams up with former British Army officer Captain Arthur Hastings and his secretary Miss Lemon.

In both stories, it's clear that too much was attempted. It would have been better to omit some minor side-developments and digressions. By following the book too closely, it occasionally becomes unnecessarily tedious and long-winded for the viewer.

Despite the beautiful locations and the consistently good performances of the main actors, I can't get beyond a frugal '3'...
