Less sequel.

Yet another director, this time there is little left of the link with the original, except in terms of plot. Although this full circle happening is also far from original anymore. We are now fully into sequel mode.

Now the rack is also getting a bit out of this kind of Wan horrors. They can probably last a while, Blumhouse is quite skilled at producing horrors for little money that still pay well, but it is not much more than milking it out. And that is increasingly at the expense of quality.

Shaye is always nice, there are still some effective scares in it and the tension is often quite exaggerated, but it's all such familiar territory and the film tries too often to surpass the previous one, which makes it all the same. which decreases. Especially the final is a bit on the cheesy side and lacks the necessary tension, where that should be the climax.

The film itself is not that bad in the end, but the interest in this kind of elaboration is visibly diminishing. As far as I'm concerned, this series is going in the freezer, either until they figure out something new to do with it, or until so much time has passed that a reboot of the style is in order again.

3.0*

Just a fun horror that doesn't come close to the first three, but it shouldn't be put in the "bad" or "skinny" category either. There were a few (simple) effective scares and the actors were good compared to many horror films.

In the previous reactions there are a few who state that they are exhausted scenarios and we therefore do not agree with that. The story was partly a look back at Elise's life, the struggles she had with her father and the resulting distance from the family. The house comes back into the picture and that is what the film is about. As said, we had a great time with this and a 7+ for that!

For this now fourth part in the series, the same applies as for "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)", namely that I use this Horror / Mystery movie I saw last year. But due to circumstances I did not write a review about it at the time and now I do.

The Insidious film series has only two consistent factors, namely the film title and Lin Shaye as Elise Rainier. This now aging actress treats viewers to a sympathetic character in every film and in this film her character is explored even more and we learn more about her past and childhood and this is rightly the strongest side of the film. Although a "psychic", she is still a nice person. However, that does not apply to the "side kicks" Specs (Leigh Whannell) and Tucker (Angus Sampson). These two characters are really annoying and seem to have only one goal, which is to entertain teenage viewers in a childish way.

The link between mind and man is well executed. It is also fun to play with the question of what is real and what is an apparition. The tension is mediocre, not original and unfortunately almost always very predictable. There are some effective scares, but they are very few. Besides the suspense, the humor was pretty bland. On one occasion I could secretly appreciate the bland and flat humor, but most of the time it was completely wrong.

"Insidious: The Last Key" isn't very good, but it isn't terribly bad either. In any case, the film is better than "Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015)".
