After the good stories I also saw A Quiet Place in the cinema, and indeed, it is a very nice thriller/horror. John Krasinski and his family live in a kind of post-apocalyptic world: the exact details are not very relevant and are not revealed, but there has been some kind of invasion of monsters, which killed a large part of humanity. These mini-predators are completely blind, but hunt by ear: any (loud) noise can be disastrous. With this background, Krasinski builds a very solid thriller, which never really surprises, but which is well put together sit.
Right from the start, the atmosphere and threat is made very clear when one of the kids gets eaten. The emphasis on silence, sign language and the threat that every sound you make could be your last works the tension well in hand. There is also some family drama, but fortunately that did not get the upper hand in the film. Essentially, Krasinski uses a lot of elements from zombie movies, and there are also a lot of jump scares. Not super original, but there is a continuous threatening, subcutaneous tension of a danger that can strike at any moment if you relax for a while. Krasinski, Blunt and also the children know how to convey that well. In short, the originality prize does not go for the film, but as a horror-thriller-drama A Quiet Place has simply become a very successful film.

This is one of those films that I really don't need to see a second time, but which is excellent once. Also special that it was so quiet in the cinema. As if they understood that you should just keep your mouth shut. Then you have done well as a director. Immediately setting the atmosphere in the first scene without too much background information and that tension remains for the rest of the film. A film full of good ideas that have been worked out even better. At times very exciting, at others tender and sweet, but always with the evil that hangs above it. Beautiful production design and good acting by the actors.
Yes, there are some points to note, as has already been stated often enough above. People are not always consistent with sounds and in addition, as a viewer you have to agree that they never make a loud noise. Also the fact that the government or the army, who are undoubtedly safe underground in many places, have not yet found out what the weak spots are is not very credible. But the guts of the makers and the freshness of the film deserve a high mark. 4.0*.

Horror as it should be. Tension that sucks you on the edge of the seat and this with eerie swelling music. That's how I experienced this movie. Whether it's all not believable or whether some things aren't right, I don't care. To be able to judge these kinds of atmospheric films correctly, you have to put your mind to zero and let yourself be completely guided by the feeling. Well, I can tell you that at times the tension got so great that I sometimes had to take a break. By the way, I found this film most exciting in the moments when you didn't get to see the monsters yet, but you clearly felt the tension of the approaching doom. My favorite scene was the one from the beginning (day 89) in which the youngest of the family played with the toy airplane and in which he was snatched away in a flash by the sound of that airplane by such an alien, so fast in fact that we barely got to see that monster. This film also had other very beautiful shocking scenes, not to mention; Visually, this film was also top-notch.
In short: I had a great time with this particularly atmospheric horror film and I can honestly say that this very successful and original horror film is in my top 10 of best films of the year 2018.
