Chasing Coral plot

Coral reefs, the 'rainforests of the sea' are home to millions of species, serving as majestic underwater ecosystems necessary for oceanic life - and ultimately, for human survival. Despite their biodiversity, they remain vulnerable to coral bleaching, a deadly phenomenon caused by higher water temperatures due to climate change. In Chasing Coral, an advertising executive works with marine biologists and camera designers to gather evidence of how breathtaking coral reefs are being destroyed by climate change.

An entertaining but otherwise not particularly remarkable documentary about the current alarming state of the world's coral reefs. The scientists and filmmakers involved are likeable enough, but the subject simply does not lend itself to an exciting viewing experience. It is therefore typical that the interview segments are more engaging than the footage of the coral shown.

A beautiful, realistic documentary that they should feel free to show at every school; Trump should see it too.

Marine biologist and diver Zack Rago has witnessed firsthand the destruction of coral reefs caused by rising ocean temperatures. To convey this message to a broad audience, he is joining forces with Jeff Orlowski-Yang, who used time-lapse cameras in Chasing Ice to show the impact of climate change on glaciers. However, to do the same underwater, Orlowski-Yang and his team must overcome a number of technical obstacles. It reminds us of the many reasons why coral reefs are crucial for habitability, both locally and globally, and could be an eye-opener for climate skeptics.
