“I know your name, demon, and that gives me dominion over you!”

Just like its predecessor, The Conjuring 2 is another strong horror film from James Wan. The story has been moved to London and again the atmosphere and the build-up of tension are the strongest points here. The film slowly gets under your skin when a demon gains more and more control over a family of a mother and her four children. And the Warren's are of course called in again to investigate the phenomenon and banish the demon.

What I love about the Conjuring films is that they are exciting and have a fantastic atmosphere, but also that the time is taken for the development of the characters and their relationship. The Warrens feel like real people with their own problems after two films, and Wilson and Farmiga are fantastic in these roles. I really enjoy a scene like this with Wilson singing 'Can't Help Falling in Love' by Elvis Presley with Farmiga watching with the kids. It makes the chilling moments all the more exciting, and the Conjuring more than just another horror film.

Good sequel, just like The Conjuring, the story here is kind of the same, family terrorized by ghosts/demons, and Ed and Lorraine trying to drive them out. The tone of the film has remained the same, old music and the revolving cameras are also present here, and what worked before still works. It's all just a bit more over the top, more frightening effects, more furniture flying through the house and the girl (she was called Penny?) gets possessed a few times. I thought the nun was pretty creepy, but the crooked man came close to the ridiculous. And here too it is full of the necessary clichés. Personally I liked the first part better, more straightforward story suits me better.

More of the same, just a bit more extreme, but a worthy sequel nonetheless, 3.5!

Part 2 of this horror series is in my opinion the best, the creepy atmosphere, shock effects and again music and with a strong playing cast make this a horror masterpiece.
