"Duncan Mudge has a secret…"

Duncan Mudge is a weird kid. He lives on the farm with his father, his mother has recently passed away. Duncan's only friend is his chicken, which he takes with him everywhere, much to the amusement of the other village boys. Duncan misses his mother and sometimes puts on her clothes. There is one boy who gradually comes to consider Duncan a friend: Perry, who is regularly beaten by his father.
