Within expectation.

A Conjuring spin-off, because you can still expect it in 2018. The niche that Wan once brought to life has now been skilfully milked out. The "great" directors have not ventured into these films for a while, the formula is now too familiar territory to be surprised.

In terms of horror, The Nun does not have much to offer. The demon + his appearances are fairly tame, the jump scares are very predictable and despite the fact that the film had a sufficient budget, there are few things in it that left a lasting impression.

The advantage is that the location offers a solid added value and that some atmosphere is harvested in this way. The acting is also okay, but that's not something that makes or breaks a horror film. The film does score some points and it is certainly not a total disaster, but as a horror fan you are still a bit hungry, especially because the horror elements are clearly present, just not able to make much of an impression.

Just good enough for once, but it may just be done with these kinds of films.

3.0*

Mathematically speaking, the chance that a decent horror film will hit the cinema again has increased a bit. This is more of the same unimaginative posturing that we've been saddled with for too long. Shock effects that you can see (and hear) coming well in advance - partly due to ostentatious musical cues - monstrous creatures with the head of Marilyn Manson, references to the bible, the umpteenth demon from some old writing and not to mention a lot of CGI -violence that has to compensate for a lack of real tension. Taissa Farmiga, the (much) younger sister of Vera, is a smart choice for the role of the young Lorraine Warring from [url=https://www.moviemeter.nl/film/88240]The Conjuring (2013)[/ url]. Why she's called Irene here is a mystery to me, but so is the choice of Jonas Bloquet as Frenchie and his terrible attempts at humor that completely miss the point. It is special that this is noticeable, because the entire film is one big mistake. Basta, high time for a good horror movie. Frankly, I'd be okay with anything mediocre, as long as it's better than this.

Despite the fact that the film had some predictable jump scares, I really liked the atmosphere in the film.

Wonderfully dark in that eerie monastery.

Well worth it if you ask me and for me outside of the two parts of "The Conjuring", the best film adaptation of a character in the chronological order of the Conjuring series
