Bad.

By far the worst part of the series. Yes, after the eighties vibe from parts 3 and 4, we go back to the somewhat dirty look from the first 2 parts, but it doesn't have the charm of those films anywhere.

This time, it doesn't provide an atmospheric backdrop to an underdog story. Rather, I felt like I was watching a lame family drama. Sylvester Stallone is again ridiculously bad and unfortunately son Sage isn't too talented either. Supporting roles by such a Carl Weathers or a song à la Eye of the Tiger/ Burning Heart are sorely missed.

1,5

Stallone is more muscular than ever in this fifth installment of the Rocky series. As a feature film itself, it doesn't amount to much. Acting and casting are not quite right. But what are we actually whining!? For the fans a great 5th part in which “the man” will train a pupil. What could be more fascinating to watch an emerging talent who seems to outdo the master but still ends up getting a lesson from the master. The final fight is great!

Saw it in the cinema at the time and really enjoyed it.

As a feature film 2.5 stars is enough (just enough).

For myself I give it 3.5 stars

And immediately continued with part 5. A part that, just like part 4, I know as well as I have often seen, and also immediately a lot less. Interesting is the image of the boxing promoter and the former student who has now become a teacher himself.

Where Rocky's resilience seemed disproportionate, there is now a sound in the beginning that was clearly visible in the trembling hands of Muhammad Ali and the even worse fate that befell Jerry Quarry. Rocky has had too many taps to the head and the brain can't take it anymore. Together with heavy financial weather, The Italian Stallion seems to have to fight very different things than before.

Nice is the chance that Rocky is offered to take the young Tommy under his wing, something that of course also comes with a price and an outcome that is predictable. Very nice, and something that we haven't seen in the previous films, is the agent/promoter called Washington Duke who looks an awful lot like Don King, I actually thought it was King himself. Recognizable and disgusting is the image of the shrewd promoter who sees an opportunity everywhere and uses everyone according to their needs.

But apart from the fact that, where Rocky is again over the top as ever, the battle with Duke and Tommy can only be settled one way, as can the failing relationship with his son, and Rocky of course re-establishes himself, part five has nothing innovative to offer. . Most remarkable is that Sage is already under the sod just like Tommy Morrison. Furthermore, a part of the Rocky series that can easily be forgotten.
