Manager Knobby Walsh trains Al Costa to fight for the heavyweight championship, but mobster Florini, with the help of his henchmen Lefty and Curly, takes the aspiring boxing champion away from him. Knobby begins a search for a new boxer. He travels through several cities with his assistant Smoky and four boxers. Knobby finds shy and gentle farm boy Joe Palooka in a small town. Joe turns out to be a natural.
