Actually quite decent.

I had actually mainly expected a painfully unfunny film that I can't laugh at and especially had to sit out for a while. Fortunately, score doesn't say everything right away and I still quite enjoyed it, especially the second part, the first one didn't seem like anything.

Smith & Kline are not a memorable duo. In the first half of the film, Smith is especially not funny and Kline is even painful at times. Kline does have charm though, so why he comes up with a role that's pretty bland is a bit of a mystery to me. As the president, he wasn't too brilliant either.

The rain of jokes fired at the viewer is sometimes annoying. Especially because it doesn't really hit the spot in the first part. Also clever how the film literally brings in the two worst actresses and still manages to get away with enough. Hayek's only good role was as a stripper in From Dusk till Dawn . Bai Ling is really the worst of the worst but luckily she leaves the scene soon.

Where the film especially hits the mark is the visual area where it still regularly manages to surprise with clever designs, cool designs and decent special effects. Apart from the 1999 film, it is a bit ahead of its time. The budget is therefore well used.

Those designs really appeal to him. And I was able to laugh at the extremely stupid slapstick in the finale of the film. That I was still able to laugh says something because that doesn't happen often in comedies. But as soon as they're stupid enough, I should go with them anyway. So it's kind of a guilty pleasure.

Not a very good film, but thanks to a number of cool designs, visually solid images and at times funny slapstick make sure I can dodge a sufficiently difficult one. Not a high one though, because the first part was quite tiring.

“That's it, no more Mr. Knife guy.”

Mediocre. I used to think Wild Wild West was a nice film, but when I review it, it is striking how messy and uninspired everything is. Nothing works, from the action to the humor, and Will Smith can't do it all alone. Kline, Hayek, Branagh, Levine and Emmet Walsh are all very mediocre. The fact that Smith still provides some nice moments says more about his charisma and acting talent. Almost Oscar worthy in such a lifeless film.

Gosh yes.

Not good, this Wild Wild West, but actually even better than I imagined after seeing the score here and on IMDB.

Wild Wild West is such an action/adventure film that you often saw from that period. It has some influences or similarities with movies like Starship Troopers (very limited, of course), The Mummy and Shanghai Noon. It's just a bit thrown together here and turned into a mess.

In addition, the humor is pretty salty and the combo Will Smith - Kevin Kline doesn't work at all. Both gentlemen are appallingly weak. If a glamorous Kenneth Branagh is the best your actors have to offer, you know it.

Most effects are now dated, but that doesn't have to be a problem. Some tidbits are still quite nice and some little things like the opening credits are nicely designed - an ode to the original, I read. It all makes Wild Wild West not the disaster I expected, just a bad movie.
