One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. From start to finish. Also one of the few films in which Tom Cruise can be himself (he also co-produced the film). Beautiful costumes, especially beautiful sets and everything as it should be. It gives a beautiful picture of the life of a samurai and not just their martial arts. It is also an example of how the original Japan was reshaped by the West into what it really didn't want.

One of the best adventure films ever. I'm a fan of this genre anyway and hadn't seen it in a while. Of course there are some flaws in every film, but those are very few. For example, the ending is a bit too long-winded and I find "Tom" to speak Japanese very quickly in just one season. Nevertheless, it all looks great and I was never bored.

The locations are recorded in three countries as I saw in the extras. Of course in America itself (especially the streets) the temples with stairs in the beginning in Japan (Kyoto) and the most beautiful of this epic the traditional village in New Zealand. Strikingly Japan has broken down so much that even that no longer exists in contrast to Indonesia where traditional villages still exist (Lombok). They now had to go all the way to New Zealand where even the Japanese had to shed a tear it all looked so beautiful.

Anyway, the film starts strikingly with the same patterns as Hidalgo a year later!! Such a whopper of a movie. But the most beautiful part is in the Japanese village with all its traditions. What a wonderful peace and relief. The film is also nicely balanced and doesn't seem rushed.

Historically the story is very nice even the language corresponds as it was spoken at the time. The plot with Tom is of course made up, but I don't lose sleep over that.

Anyway, a great adventure film with beautiful shots and locations and a great story.

Movie 4.5

Blu-ray 4.5

Sound 4.5

Extras 5
