Equilibrium plot

"In a future where freedom is outlawed, outlaws will become heroes."

In a futuristic world, a strict regime has ensured that there is no more war. They have done this by suppressing emotions: books, art and music are strictly forbidden, and feelings are a crime punishable by death. John Preston is a senior government official responsible for prosecuting those who break these laws. When he doesn't get his dose of anti-emotional drugs, he begins to wonder if he's doing the right thing. This puts him in direct conflict with his superiors.

“Be careful Preston. You're treading on my dreams.”

Interesting sci-fi film with excellent acting by Christian Bale. Even as a numb fighting machine, he still manages to impress. But by not taking a pill, more and more feelings surface in him, and just by a certain look Bale knows how to make this come across well.

The story is intriguing and especially in the dilemma between the good and bad qualities and emotions of people, and that with the exclusion of feelings all good also disappears, is the strength of the film. The action scenes are nice, but Bale is very invincible and the ending is a bit rushed. Fortunately, the Welshman shows his class again.

Clearly made in the aftermath of The Matrix movie, many elements of it can be found in the action scenes, some directly stolen, and otherwise clearly less impressive in terms of SFX and CGI.

A distopic world, with clear references to Fritz Lang's Metropolis, so 1984, and also Nazi Germany, but it is all very thick, and unfortunately the effect is not really great. Crafted 90s cars, full-face helmet suits off the bike shop shelf are just a minor symptom.

Too many clichés, too little original, it just didn't grab me.

Bale acts fine, as already stated here, but if the development of the characters is not going well, the scenes and the dialogues are not good enough, you can't save that with solid acting either.

Lousy opening, no introduction that grabs, but a lot of action. The scene at the Crematorium, including bombastic Gregorian chants, makes no sense, then in itself a few nice plot twists followed by a standard crescendo towards an equally clichéd ending I won't spoil it further for those who still do wants to watch.]

Despite ingredients that could have turned this into something fantastic, this film does not get further than a six, a meager six. Wannabe Cyberpunk, but it just doesn't add anything to what was already there and certainly doesn't belong to the memorable representatives of the genre,

"Forget the Matrix, this movie will blow you away" is on the DVD box, watch the Matrix again.
