Army of Darkness is extremely ridiculous, but also extremely hilarious. Another top performance in Sam Raimi's Evil Dead, although this has relatively little to do with the previous films. The center of gravity has clearly shifted more to fantasy, but is sometimes still quite sinister. Ash is just a hero. Nothing more and nothing less. He does what suits him best and has without a doubt the best lyrics in the entire film. This is my BOOMSTICK.

What it comes down to, just like in the other Evil Dead films, is that it appears to be quite low budget again, although in 1992 a budget of about 13 million dollars is not wrong at all. The sets and costumes look simple but effective. The army of the dead looks really cool to me. It's a shame that stop motion is hardly used anymore, because here too it works very effectively and atmospheric. The decoration is simply beautiful and that largely hides the standard story. It's also wonderful how Raimi sometimes uses house, garden and kitchen sounds. Beautifully done! Hail to the king baby!

Ash has come a long way, in roughly one day. From terrified teenager to Duke Nukem himself. Strikingly many similarities with the computer game Duke Nukem 3D, which would be released about four years later. Statements, attitudes and of course the poster itself. As a big fan of the game, this was a particularly pleasant surprise.

The grim hut in the woods has indeed disappeared for good and had to make way for medieval decors. All very over-the-top, with much more emphasis on humor and the ridiculous nature of the events. Fortunately, it is funny, thanks to the great Bruce Campbell and the formidable stop motion. Harryhausen couldn't hide his tears of happiness.

Although the horror has long ceased to be horror, it nevertheless feels like a minor classic within the genre. Delicious nonsense.

This part in the Evil Dead series clearly had a higher budget available, which you can see from the beautiful SFX and a very well-developed script. Bruce Campbell is clearly a high-profile actor, a skilled craftsman who can easily rival giants such as Brando, Olivier, De Niro and Hopkins. Army of Darkness is the perfect ending to this magisterial triptych, a classic in film history. Hail to the king!
