A beautiful film that could have done a lot more.

Totally unknown title that I only picked up because of the high ratings. But unfortunately, apart from an impressive start, the film doesn't live up to it for me and the short running time of only one and a half feels long.

The beginning with the arrival of Clement Mathieu may nevertheless be there and gives a very nice stimulus with its fairytale music and ditto atmosphere that feels a bit Tim Burton-esque. The acquaintance with the bizarre director is just as good and can be called genius at times. Screaming in the midst of the children, the film has a typical French stimulus at that moment, which with its slightly absurd atmosphere is reminiscent of other French cinema. Good and fun until there. Just like Mathieu's first steps in the classroom and his attempt to win over the children with a completely different approach. Still fine.

The selection in terms of singing voice is also there now and then with the power struggle with different people such as the director and Mondain, but also to win over Morhange. And somehow the film does have parallels with Death Poets Society, with the difference that the film continues to fascinate unlike Les Choristes, where my attention completely disappears during the formation of the boys' choir.

As said, Les Choristes starts very well, but in my eyes it doesn't manage to continue that line despite the good soundtrack, the fun among the youth and the director's attention. A pity, but unfortunately not my thing because in my opinion the fat, the sjeu, the well-known absurdism and humor that set French films apart, completely disappears during the second part.

Very moving film about a penitentiary and orphanage after the Second World War. The film is fully supported by Jugnot, who watches over the children as a kind of father figure. He sees in them more than mere troublemakers, but sees talents in each of them. Anointing is better known to him than hitting. He develops their talents through what is best known to him: music.

Although there are corporal punishment and imprisonment in the film, the film still has a fairly light-hearted tone. The boys' choir and the appropriately beautiful music will probably be no stranger to this. A great movie with a limited running time. The film flies by and has few to no weak moments. As mentioned, Jugnot did a fantastic job, but the children also played their roles very well.
