Jeremiah plot

Jeremiah leaves both his family and Judith, the woman he loves, to proclaim the message of God in Jerusalem. He warns the people that the Holy City will be destroyed by the Babylonians. The cruel King Jehoiakim sees Jeremiah as a traitor and has him persecuted. Jeremiah flees, but is captured anyway. Judith is stabbed to death in front of his eyes. When it appears that the Egyptians will not come to the aid of the king, Jeremiah is released and the king asks him for advice. Shaphan, the king's general, manages to throw Jeremiah into an abandoned cistern.
