Firth is a great actor; and furthermore I can imagine that this is an artistic gem for a number of people.

I myself was waiting for Godot...

Touching and heartbreaking drama film about loss, grief and grief. What a pity that you could not openly declare your love at the time and how painful that George was not welcome even at Jim's funeral...... How beautiful, modest and respectful Collin Firth played a tormented soul grieving for his dead beloved! Film is actually only carried by him. Plot reminded me a bit of Yossi (2012). Cinematography is retro, the 60's atmosphere is nicely recreated including the high hairstyles. Beautiful music that evokes or amplifies emotions. Striking: absurd that ammunition is so easily available in the US, George's organizational urge was comparable to Christian Grey, Carlos quoted 'Lovers are like buses, you have to wait a while, then the next one comes'. The end of the film refers to the beginning again. What a beautifully poetic, but oh so incredibly dramatic ending with heavenly light......

Stiff but visually stylish drama.

A day in the life of Professor Falconer who can't bear the loss of his beloved Jim. Something that is presented stylishly and recognisably, the phenomenon that sticks to a memory everywhere, for example. The fact that George naturally has a kind of detachment and closedness about him anyway, which makes it difficult to make contact with people and possibly move on with life. The planned end of the day is therefore easy to guess, at least if it is up to George.

The fact that there is a whole world full of other people and possibilities revolves around his own. George proves to be an anchor, sounding board and inspiration for many and more than enough reason to live. However, not everything goes as planned.

The film does have an interesting theme with the loss of things, mourning, sadness and especially the idea that there is more to live for. Still, George's struggle doesn't really touch me and the film has trouble keeping me interested. Firth's award-winning acting doesn't change that much, as does the beautiful sixties atmosphere and decor. The final verdict is therefore; seen and ticked off, and not soon again as far as I'm concerned.
