Reasonable movie. Must have been a hit at the time, with two big stars on board, but time has overtaken this Holiday. Looks a bit stage-like, some flashy dialogues are interspersed with lackluster sequences and the last 10 minutes are a bit unbelievable with a very abrupt end. The fact that you still have a satisfying feeling will mainly be the merit of the charismatic protagonists, Hepburn in particular is on a roll.

A great romantic feel-good film. Yes, you may see it coming from afar, but that does not disturb in this film. Acting roles are played perfectly, stereotypes are played out beautifully (and then crossed). From a regular flip-flop about adventure (vs ambition) to what is necessary (vs wanting all the money in the world). And with a touch of humor here and there (and an excellent interpretation by Hepburn), this film (already 70 years old) is becoming a great classic!

To call this a comedy is going a bit far. The premisewas there: Cary Grant is going to marry a girl who, to his surprise, suddenly turns out to be very rich. So when Grant arrived at the palace of his future in-laws, I immediately foresaw one comic misunderstanding and culture shock after another. Hilarity ensues you would say. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. A series of scenes full of serious dialogues and sermons for their own parish began.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against a well written drama. The problem with Holidayis that there are no stakesat all. The relationship between Grant and fiancee co-star turns out to be 9 days old! And they insist on getting married as soon as possible, so the marriage must, without any clear reason, immediately be approved by the soon-to-be father-in-law and announced that same evening. This while the lovebirds have no chemistry, have almost nothing in common and don't know each other at all. The inevitable conclusion after introducing free-thinking sister Hepburn (privilege and self-pity incarnate) is immediately clear to everyone, and as a viewer you really have no idea what those people on screen are all fussed about.
