Beautiful, sure.. but with too many flaws to really leave a deep impression. It's probably just me, but I don't quite like certain things. Such a 1st scene at that dinner table where Helen just takes food from all the plates with her hands and is actually just treated like a dog is a nice foundation for the structure of the story (where Annie gets to work is allowed with her), but in my opinion it is still very exaggerated. There are more things like that. Too much of a good thing.

In addition, Helen's parents could not convince me at all. The strength of this 'Miracle Worker' lies mainly in the scenes between Duke and Bancroft. This produces quite a few very strong scenes. I didn't find it compelling. Maybe that's also because I sometimes found Helen very annoying. But yeah, I don't think she can do anything about that either. Yet there is a beautiful form of love in this print, coming from all the characters. Difficult film, but still quite beautiful.

Arthur Penn at his best with this moving film, which certainly bears the stamp of the sixties, but which can certainly still be enjoyed to the full, the subject matter is so substantive and the actors' performances are so impressive, especially from Anne Bancroft who, it turns out, me, especially with this movie will be remembered.

I definitely like old theatrical movies, but this one was very loud and straight to your face. I am not a fan of the acting and the film lacks some subtlety. Anne Bancroft makes amends, but she can't save the movie. Too bad, because the story is quite interesting. By the way, the real Helen Keller was still alive when the movie came out. Although she will never have seen it herself, of course. (rofl)
