"People are the ultimate spectacle."
During the Depression years in the interwar period, a dance marathon is organized in Hollywood. The film follows the participants who, desperate from poverty, all want to win at all costs or get the attention of the master of ceremonies who is also looking for talent for the film industry. However, no one could have imagined the gruesome, exhausting and even deadly competition that begins - all for the amusement of a few bored spectators.

The film starts rather strangely with a dancing competition, a typical American activity in the style of eating the most hot dogs or something. Something that breaks the routine in a boring village and can create local celebrities. But gradually you become part of the game and all the intrigues emerge. More interesting than expected. And I notice that I am always pleasantly surprised by Jane Fonda, especially with the older films.

Bizarre, quite depressing film about a merciless dance marathon, organized in Hollywood during the Great Depression of the 1930s. The film can be seen as a precursor to our current obsession with reality TV and many story elements are still quite relevant. The excellent cast bravely gets through the misery, but due to the lack of any bright spot, the film is ultimately so gloomy and hopeless that you can hardly speak of entertainment anymore. But the events are certainly fascinating.
