Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter plot

"Three times before you have felt the terror, known the madness, lived the horror. But this is the one you've been screaming for."

Jason is pronounced dead and taken to the morgue. After getting rid of some staff, he makes his way back to Crystal Lake camp where a group of teenagers are getting ready for the vacation. Among the teenagers, however, is little Tommy Jarvis: a big fan of the horror genre. Will he be able to stop Jason?

This not so final part is better filmed and generally better acted than the previous parts. The film opens again with a short replay of what came before, followed by some pretty brutal kills in the hospital. After that we have to miss Jason Voorhees for a long time and character building is supposedly being done, but who cares? We just want to see these pesky youngsters get butchered! A strong part, with apparently the emergence of a new Jason at the end.

The Final Chapter, quite a funny title for the fourth part of a franchise of more than ten films. It really does have that 'prototypical' or classic Friday the 13th feel, more so than the first three films. Lots of naked and horny youngsters, Jason with his hockey mask, kills that pass at a fast pace. It's an entertaining film because of that, although the first part is slow to start. The characters are still quite sympathetic in this part, but they are far too many. You can't quite tell the slaughter cattle apart, except for a few. Funny to see a little Corey Feldman. The kills, however, continue to make little impression; after 2 seconds the camera usually turns away quickly, so you don't see much of it. But the set-up of the murders was also not very original (and even more original in part 2 or 3). And Jason doesn't seem very menacing to me, and he's just a clunky appearance. Give me Michael Myers then. But that's just personal preference of course.

Part 4 appears to be a favorite for many, but that was not my experience. Because of the slightly nicer characters and the slightly better gore/make-up effects (especially the death of Jason himself) I think it's better than part III, but it stays at 2.5*.
