Jason meets Terminator meets Doom, or so it seems. This has little to do with the original Friday the 13th stories, but is at least more entertaining than the previous two parts. And there is also some humor in it.

"I have an idea. You hold him and I'll run."

"Can't you just beam us up or something?"

Worst part in the series. It tries to do something different, which I can (half) appreciate, but it just doesn't do it very well. Jason in the future and in space, OK, but then the good ideas stop. The film tries way too hard for me, a little hard to explain exactly what I mean. Kind of like consciously trying to make a cult film, that doesn't work either, you can't force it. Here one tries to make a "so bad and bland and taken together that it becomes fun again" film, but such films only become entertaining if the makers really thought they were doing something good. Or if the makers suffer much less from overestimation than these bunglers. This is just slow, boring, ugly and lacking in atmosphere.

By the way, why I can only half appreciate this other approach: I think the "Jason kills some teenagers in a forest" concept hadn't been milked out yet. The best Jason is the supernatural Jason, who only shows up in part 6. In the first 5 parts Jason doesn't participate or is just a bit too human. In part 7 the resistance is too supernatural, in part 8 he is mainly on a boat, in part 9 he is a kind of snail and then you have this thing. There is only 1 movie out of 10 with the right version of Jason in the right setting and with the right tone and that was part 6 (also the best Friday movie by far), so a few more could have been made. OK, part 4 came close.
