Team Foxcatcher plot

"An Olympic hero. A delusional benefactor. At the intersection of ambition and paranoia lies tragedy."

Team Foxcatcher was founded in the 1990s by John E. du Pont, a wealthy man from Pennsylvania. He was heir to Du Pont's family fortune and mad about wrestling. He wasn't a great sport himself, but the game fascinated him. With all his money, he therefore decided to invite Mark Schultz to train for the Olympic Games on his estate. Mark was a gifted wrestler, but his brother Dave was even better. And that bothered Mark. He therefore decided to accept John E. du Pont's offer in order to develop further. It started as an opportunity, but ended in drama. Dave Schultz was murdered on the farm of Du Pont, by John E. du Pont. The documentary looks back at Dave's murder. What happened at the Foxcatcher farm? The story is told through never-before-seen images.

Reasonable addition to the film.

The film itself wasn't all that great, especially the characters weren't done justice. This documentary clearly demonstrates this. It's not entirely surprising that a slightly more positive image was painted (after all, everyone was personally involved), but there's still a clear sense of humanity.

The story itself remains quite captivating, even though I'd already seen it in film form. Testimonials from those who were there are, in that respect, more interesting than a somewhat poorly stylized Hollywood film.

The documentary itself is rather cheaply put together, offering little more than interviews and old footage. But if you're curious about what really happened around du Pont after seeing Foxcatcher, this documentary will be a welcome addition.

2.5*

A decent documentary about an eccentric multimillionaire who finances his own wrestling team. A captivating story with an equally captivating protagonist (many examples of his unusual behavior are provided, primarily by the wrestlers on his team at the time). While this documentary offers a bit more detail than the film from 2014, the latter is definitely better. Easily 3.0 stars.

Two years after the dramatization of Foxcatcher, this documentary tells the true story behind eccentric multimillionaire and philanthropist John Du Pont, who shot and killed top wrestler Dave Schultz on January 26, 1996, at his Foxcatcher estate. The estate housed training facilities for top American athletes from various disciplines. Staff members, athletes, and Schultz's wife (who lived on the estate with her daughter) tell their stories using authentic footage, including some never-before-seen footage.
