I liked this part 2 of the exorcist quite a bit.

It is messy and the effects are sometimes only moderate.

2.5 star

This terrible film really doesn't deserve to be associated with a masterpiece like the first part.
The idea of the movie is that, somehow, the demon from the first movie is still somewhere in Regan and wants to take her over again.
Her psychiatrist wants to use a ridiculous device to put her under hypnosis, and thus somehow look into her memories. Here comes a flashback of the exorcism years earlier. Jason Miller refused to participate in the film so Father Merrin is hailed as "the hero who saved Regan".
Also present is another Father, Lamont, played by Richard Burton. After 4 years, the church has decided that perhaps they should investigate the exorcism and death of Merrin and an unnamed Father.
Burton's character later travels to Africa to find a man who was once possessed by the same demon as Regan as a child. The flashback to this story, and Burton's scenes in Africa, are so indistinct and confusing that imo it's completely unclear what's happening for quite a part of the movie. The ways in which certain scenes are filmed certainly don't help.
Later in the movie , there are also some scenes at a replica of the house in Georgetown from the 1st movie.

The acting is usually not special at all, but Richard Burton acted notably bad in this film, perhaps his worst acting performance ever. His character lacks the sympathy Father Damian had in the first film and isn't nearly as interesting as Merrin. Since Burton plays such an important character, that has repercussions on the film.

A terrifyingly bad sequel to one of the greatest classics in the horror genre. The atmosphere and tension from the original is nowhere to be found. The story is too ridiculous for words and although The Exorcist was of course a horror film with a super natural edge, this fact is greatly exaggerated in Exorcist II. The climax in particular is absurd.

The acting is also very different from the original. The now 17-year-old Linda Blair is colorless in this sequel and Oscar winner Louise Fletcher also fails to impress in this film. Richard Burton still does a good job, but he also knows little about this hopeless script.

On paper, the film still looked so good. A budget of 14 million dollars, a talented director (John Boorman), a cast with resounding names, music written by the famous Italian composer Ennio Morricone (who is also very good by the way). But the problem really lies in the hopeless script, which has been changed countless times. The editing also makes this film a long sit. The film was a commercial flop and is considered one of the worst sequels ever!
