A young man has bought the land with the intention of reopening the camp and hires seven young people to help him with the preparations. Local village idiot Ralph warns them that there is a 'death curse' on the camp.

Uninspired, clichรฉd nonsense made only to quickly tie into the commercial success of horror films such as Halloween (1978). My half star is only for the last 5 seconds of the film. Only interesting for die-hard fans of Kevin Bacon, who played his second film role here and, it must be said, goes to heaven in an original way.

But I'm afraid that many horror fans are so lyrical about this American fluff is more about how little quality they are used to than about the merits of this film.

Instead of wasting your time with this nonsense, watch horror movies like Carnival of Souls (1962) or Wolfen (1981). These movies are guaranteed to stay with you longer than Friday the 13th could ever hope to.

If you're really into slashers in dark woods, Jeff Lieberman's Just Before Dawn (1981) is by far preferable to this horror coughing fit.

Simple horror film without frills. Little story, lots of scary moments. The close camera orientation is original and creates scary moments. I personally don't like it that much, but it is effective for the enthusiasts. According to a macabre insider, the film is known for Tom Savini's beautiful make-up effects.

The music and plot are clearly inspired by Psycho (1960). Still by far the best horror movie of all time in my opinion. However, both music and plot in Friday the 13th (1980) are simpler. The music simply has fewer notes. The plot is hectic and long drawn out, with two resurrections. Strange, but not that special. There is also (especially in the beginning) little attention for Jason, which is what the film is about.

Part two of this 8 part series also seems to be worth checking out, but don't think I'll start on that yet.

Just stays nice. The setting, the kills (even if they have been worked out very well), the atmosphere 80 through hairstyles, clothes....yes, it still works because I estimate that I haven't seen this film for 20 years now. That Jason wasn't in it yet was also forgotten. Score stays anyway.
