About Gil, a true fan and #11. Scott is recovering after the terrible Crimson Tide. Not with a big movie, but one that you quickly link to him. Many a director would turn this into a kind of slow burner, I suppose, Scott mainly gives full throttle through energetic direction in image and sound.

Also no endless chatter between characters, but smooth, a tad rude and to the point. He almost races through his scenes. It's not subtle, far from it, and the scenario sometimes leaves something to be desired, but you do get a targeted film.

A thriller with the motor of an action film, something along those lines. That comes at the expense of De Niro's obsession, threat and that sort of thing, but Scott manages to squeeze out a few scenes that are worth it in the end. Not a nail biter, but certainly not an annoying film either.

A somewhat forgotten film by Tony Scott, and one that didn't even disappoint me despite the rather negative reactions. Good idea to tell the film through the eyes of the "bad guy", a man whose life is a battlefield of setbacks. The only thing that keeps him going is his obsession for Bobby Rayburn, a top baseball player. As his social existence declines, he becomes mentally unbalanced and dangerous. Wesley Snipes is played on the sidelines due to Scott's strong focus on De Niro. Didn't mind but then a lesser known actor like Snipes would have been good for this role. Except in the very strong and tense meeting between Renard and Rayburn after the former saves his idol's son from drowning , Snipes was indeed disappointing. De Niro plays a psychopath that is close to his previous performance in Cape Fear, although he was a lot less intense here. Not entirely wrong.

Mediocre film about a knife seller who blows the whistle when he is fired. The characters are only poorly developed here and it is often delivered too unbelievable. The film could also easily have been shorter. Robert DeNiro and Wesley Snipes are well cast and both play excellent roles.
