Scientists crossed alien DNA with human DNA, creating a dangerous life form that they want to eradicate as quickly as possible. A dangerous one, but one with beautiful shapes and which is pleasant to look at. Have always liked that SF thriller (built around a possible answer from space to the Arecibo message) although I can't say why, because the dialogues are actually terrible, the B-movie content is never far away and Whitaker has to make do with an absolute flutrol that mars his filmography. Maybe the simple entertainment (just watch and enjoy), the brisk pace, the special effects, Kingsley's bald head, Canadian model Natasha Henstridge. Who will say? The formula works for me and that's why Species gets a big pass, and maybe that's why it was a solid blockbuster at the time.

A 90's cross between Frankenstein and Alien. It is not surprising that the latter film in particular is an inspiration. The creature was created by HR Giger, who was also responsible for the monsters in Alien. The story itself is not that special, but the execution is not that bad. In addition, the film can count on a cast that is larger than you would expect from a film like this. With search team Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina, Michael Madsen, Forest Whitaker and Marg Helgenberger. Even Michelle Williams stars as the young grout.

The film never reaches the level of Alien, but the simple story and the sultry decoration make it quite enjoyable. Not difficult that the film brought in so much (almost 3 times the budget) and that the necessary sequels followed. The film would have fit right into the X-Files.
