Clumsy, cheap-looking third part that tries to milk the two fun earlier parts. This without the budget or nice actors. What remains is a bad film that has little to do with the first two. There is little and no real effort to make something out of it. The fourth part is slightly better.

There is less and less budget within such a series and that is starting to get disturbing here. Occasionally looks like an amateur production and only has some say through its recognizable effects. In terms of story, unlike the second part, it again adds a full fifteen minutes of scientific posturing. Gives it quite a grubby character, rather high virginity. Still it remains entertaining pulp and I expect the same from the fourth and last part. It is a credit if such a (clearly) lesser part still manages to entertain. Then you have an entertaining concept in your hands.

More of the same with fewer resources. The fans won't ask for more, for most it won't be enough. Species III looks like a TV production and the quality of the first two parts is not reached, but it is a nice attempt. Even the special effects didn't disappoint me. It's a direct sequel to the second film and distils new elements from it like those half-breeds. It is by no means great, but as the third part in a franchise this was not an outright disaster.

Species : 3.5*

Species II : 3*

Species III : 2.5*
