from start to finish a gross & bloody zombie slaying with many bloody kills, the story is superficial cheap, was a nice pastime with many comic scenes, that's all I can say about it 2,5*

Undervalued. Another fine review, which once again made it clear how fine Romero reaps his previously sown ideas here - to the extreme. 15 years later it still appears to be quite fresh and the over the top packaging gives it the right tone. Well dosed in terms of cheesy one liners and a satisfying amount of gore. Eugene Clark with a now iconic zombie role and an extremely bad Dennis Hopper are the icing on the cake. There aren't many "traditional" zombie movies from this period (or since) that survive, but Land of the Dead does. And with that, it is also Romero's last notable film.

Just a Romero after gaming, and well, with Romero you say quite a name in the zombie field. And that creates expectations that are not fully met afterwards.

A lot has already been made in the zombie genre, of course, really innovating in that area is difficult. But don't necessarily have to because with a handful of survivors, a horde of zombies and the necessary kills you actually have the recipe. Is it always the same then...? Yes, actually, but it doesn't matter to me. Land Of The Dead also has the usual, and it must be said that the setting and environment are not wrong, and with some nice atmospheric shots it certainly doesn't seem to go the wrong way with Land Of The Dead. Especially the zombie versus capitalism idea is pretty funny.

Land Of The Dead shows that a lot can go wrong within the aforementioned frameworks of what a zombie film makes. Simon Baker is not bad but is just a bit too lightweight to give a little more. Hopper, of course the biggest name and a great cast as a bad guy, unfortunately he doesn't appear enough to impress. And well...then you have Leguizamo. Go play in Justin Bieber clips dude, because as an actor you are nine times out of ten with that arrogant overacting of yours and just as often a reason for me to skip a movie. It is there where Romero seems to have lost his touch, something that he already showed with the disappointing Diary Of The Dead.

But hey, as so often, a zombie movie is like pizza. Even the bad guys are still okay, and Land Of The Dead is also quite good.
