Help! plot

"Stop worrying! HELP! is on the way!"

Ringo Starr accidentally takes the ring from a young woman who is affiliated with an obscure Asian cult that believes in human sacrifice. These human sacrifices must have that special ring. Until she has the ring on, a young woman cannot be sacrificed. Ringo is found to be the current owner of the ring and is therefore pursued by the cult and a few strange scientists led by Professor Foot. The London police and Ahme, a high-ranking member of the cult who no longer believes in it, try to help Ringo.

Together with A Hard Day's Night for me the most entertaining feature film The Beatles have produced. Nice screenplay that seems to be bathed in a typical British Peter Sellers comedy atmosphere and nice songs in between (if you like it). Never a moment does boredom strike. Famous is the scene in which The Beatles disguise themselves and thus prove to be a foreshadowing of the looks they would adopt a few years later (except for McCartney).

Apparently not all users can appreciate the humor in this film, but for me it is a smooth and unpretentious film that amuses me. You also feel the typical sixties atmosphere in this film, yet a decade of transition in many cultural and social areas.

It is striking that in their early years - apart from the music - the boys from Liverpool liked to emphasize, or had it placed, their sense of (British) humour. This film and accompanying LP belonged to the end of the first phase of their career. The following year they would stop performing and concentrate fully on studio work. The relationships would gradually become a bit more difficult and sour. But that is far from being discussed here in this Help! , where the band comes across as a machine from which you want a Ticket To Ride.

In the 60s probably very experimental, hip and funny but now especially excruciatingly annoying.

Some sparsely original finds and the music is what remains.

Not a good film, but much better than A Hard Day's Night. In the previous posts, a number of comparisons have been made, all of which saw wood. James Bond (even the soundtrack sounds like Bond at one point), Monty Python (the humor is sometimes very absurd, with the house and especially the intermission as highlights). At one point I had seen it, but then it turned out that we were not even halfway through the film.

The sequel dropped considerably in terms of level, where you can indeed think of Bassie and Adriaan. Either you go completely absurd, like Monty Python, or you go for an action plot like James Bond, but this was just in-between in an infantile way with the "Asian" people and the mad scientists who worked on the series of the clown and acrobat makes you think. The songs are fitted in a bit better than in A Hard Day's Night. In the end a lot better and more entertaining than that last movie that was really hard to get through, so one star more than that movie. So 1.5*.
