Mystic Pizza plot

"A romantic comedy with the works"

Mystic, Connecticut. In a humble pizza joint called Mystic Pizza, three young girls work as waitresses. They are the beautiful Daisy Araujo, her smart sister Kat and their cheerful friend Jojo. Jojo manages to avoid marriage to her boyfriend Bill by passing out at the altar. Though she loves Bill, she's afraid she'll soon become a saggy housewife like Bill's mother. Daisy meets Charlie Winsor, a pleasantly deranged student from the good family who drives around in a Porsche. Kat falls in love with an architect, who has a daughter. However, the love path is not always a bed of roses.

Nice debut film by Donald Petrie about adolescents on the threshold of life, in which comic situations and sensitive scenes alternate. With mild humor and striking character, themes such as friendship, class difference, hope and disappointment are presented in a lifelike way.

Julia Roberts and Annabeth Gish were nominated for the 'Young Artist Awards' for this print, both for 'Best Young Actress. Matt Damon made his first film appearance in this.

Romance in 3 facets, not too dramatic and also with the classic bland humor and in the end everyone is satisfied.

What the hell do you think Leona really puts in that pizza?

Well that is clear. A little bit of dough, a tomato, an olive, and a huge scoop of cliches. This is of course such a film, no criticism about it, but also little that makes it something special - why would you look up this film from almost 35 years ago?

The simple answer would be, well, because Julia Roberts is in it, and she's got such a nice tight 80s dress on, and with that hair. But in this movie, it's actually Annabeth Gish, of course. Too bad no one seems to have seen that - she still plays all kinds of roles, but not as the big star. Then I wonder why it isn't the other way around. And before anyone starts talking about the X-files, that was already a dead end at the time.

Anyway, it's a nice movie, although I'm clearly not the target audience. Nice as a counter to the over-represented high school film - and what do you call that, I'm a bit stuck with something like the 'child labor film'. After all, school is not the most impressive event in existence for everyone.

Oh and no, I hadn't noticed Damon to be honest.
