How few people on mm have seen this movie. It is indeed recommended. Movie never gets boring. Neeson plays excellent and you immediately get a good lesson in the whole British/Irish conflict. Sad to see the Irish getting into a civil war, just as the Irish got a little more say over their own republic.

Clearly a lot of money has been spent on the whole setting. The murders are explicitly depicted, which makes it all seem a bit more real. The film doesn't really leave you with a good feeling, but I think that's a plus.

This was a great film!, with good acting and the fast course of the film is a plus point, you are never bored. And you really had pieces in there that were impressive and hard. So taken from life..

1 small minus point I did think that the content didn't go very deep otherwise I would give it a four!

now 3 1/2 stars

Just a little side note: that Tank that drove onto that football field and killed a lot of people, is that true?

3 1/2 stars.

The film starts a bit busy, because it opens right in the middle of the Easter Rising. I personally wouldn't have minded if a bit of run-up had been included in the film there. After the somewhat messy start, the film gets going slowly and it actually gets more and more interesting, until you as a viewer are completely immersed in it.

Michael Collins also feels like a very decent biopic. In any case, the star cast is in top form. Liam Neeson plays the title character with gusto and is also enjoyed by the likes of Alan Rickman, Ian Hart, Stephen Rea, Aidan Quinn and Julia Roberts. Despite the fact that the film also has some long-winded parts, director Neil Jordan knows how to teach you every time. The first Bloody Sunday is heartbreakingly portrayed and the flowering feud between Collins and de Valera is intense. The tension is palpable at times.

Admittedly, I don't have a 'wow' feeling about this film. So it is sometimes a bit too messy and too long-winded for that. Nevertheless, the film leaves a positive impression and I would also say that it is worth watching. After all, a number of moments are indeed impressive and the story of Michael Collins is also comprehensive enough to be told. In addition, a piece of history is told here that should not be forgotten; and the film manages to paint a striking picture of this.

3.5*
