Boring. The film is terribly dull, both the story and the audiovisual level. Anyway, it's in a typical 90s style that you mainly know from sitcoms (especially ugly) and I also had the idea to watch an extended episode of that. It just doesn't want to be fun or funny anywhere and the film just goes on and on. Ben Affleck is also often a dead person, although his game with the cute Adams is okay and delivers some beautiful moments. But that's it. 1.5*.

"You're chasing Amy."

A very special movie. Chasing Amy is an unconventional romantic comedy about a man who falls in love with a lesbian woman. It's all quite crude and explicit, but at some point it will turn against the film. After the umpteenth sex-related dialogue it starts to get boring. If you took a shot after every sex-tinged comment, you'd be pretty drunk by the end of the movie.

But Affleck, Lee and Adams are well attuned to each other and especially Lee knows how to bring some humor into the film. Affleck plays the straight man well and has a nice chemistry with Adams. Adams is an actress with a somewhat special appearance and especially voice, but she does intrigue. Especially in the beginning she is good but when the drama gets the upper hand she is less convincing, just like Affleck by the way. The ending is nice but can't completely erase the long-winded middle part.

I think the most positive thing about this film is the somewhat daring, straightforward dialogues and the emotional performance of Joey Lauren Adams, who manages to credibly bring her character's inner struggle into the limelight. I am less pleased with the roles of her two opponents Ben Affleck and Jason Lee, who seem to constantly ask themselves "where have I ended up?" The scene in which Affleck proposes to solve the problems through a threesome is downright cringe-inducing.
A meager 3*.
