They used to have gruesome workplaces. The weather wasn't cooperating either; really everything you see is wet and mud is everywhere. Rats crawl around and you have to be lucky if you want to eat a decent meal. This time we look at it from a helpless position where the danger comes not so much from the Krauts but remains virtually invisible. Naturally, trammelt comes into play and emotions run high. The young Charlie Shakespeare seems to be almost in the middle and, together with some colleagues, tries to validate his (justified) concern. The whole is nice and gray and the casting is very appropriate. I do hope there is another similar production where evil resides in dead corpses or skeletons instead of mental conflicts.

death watch

Well, not a bad movie at all. He just couldn't catch me.

The story itself is good and original. They just don't do enough to really make something of that story. Sometimes it just sucks talking

Acting is sufficient.

Visually it all looks good and I have nothing to complain about.

There is a dark atmosphere to the film where you really have the feeling that they are in a war. Yet it all remains very vague what it is and why. The ending is also quite unusual. Quite a shame about these negatives because the set-up and the story were good. The film didn't grab me and that's why I'm stuck at a 2.5*

Mme.

In terms of atmosphere and environment, the film is certainly there, but the horror that you as a viewer wait a bit for, however, never fully materializes. Unfortunately, the film has no memorable moments anywhere and they should have saved the film a bit.

Remarkably many familiar faces. Hadn't looked at the cast beforehand so was pleasantly surprised to see quite a few familiar faces. Bell and Serkis, for example, are 2 headlines that are hard to ignore in this movie, especially given the concept.

Original to make a horror/war film, only both elements hardly come to the fore, which was a shame. The environment is clearly war, and the atmosphere clearly leans towards horror, but there is never any real balance and there is no lashing out at any particular genre.

This way you regularly have a cool and gloomy atmosphere that has tense moments, but nothing really ever happens. It is mainly the atmosphere that has to be created between the soldiers themselves, but this too is a bit short-sighted and you never really feel pressure.

In the opening we actually get to see the only real form of war, the actual war. But everything after that is mainly the trench itself that has to represent the war, plus the surroundings of course. The horror is mainly the atmosphere but it never really comes loose.

The horror is also barely visible and the film lacks really good memorable horror moments. Something like Serkis being eaten by barbed wire for example. Only real highlight of the movie. And perhaps the sinkhole.

But it never really comes off nicely, and that's what doesn't make Deathwatch a really successful film. It's nice that there is a horror/war film, but unfortunately this doesn't amount to much.
