Transamerica plot
"Life is a journey. Bring an open mind."
Bree is a conservative transsexual. She works hard and saves every penny to pay for the last surgery that will finally make her a real woman. Then she receives a call from a certain Toby, who turns out to be her son, caused by a clumsy affair. Toby also turns out to be in prison in New York. On the advice of her therapist, Bree goes to New York to pick up her son. This one has no idea how the fork is in the stem and Bree decides to keep it that way for the time being.

Great movie.
Great acting, great story and great atmosphere. Have little to say about this. Also thought the story was well put together. Had to think a bit in the beginning; Was she a man who wants to become a woman or vice versa?
Film also has its comedic moments and then its dramatic moments, but never goes off the rails. Sometimes just a slightly coincidental moment (when they arrive in that boy's hometown and they happen to meet someone who knows him well and takes him in, for example, but even more frowning events).
Nothing but praise. Would like to see him again.

What a fun movie. The genre balances between drama and comedy and the humor certainly appeals to me. They could make a ridiculous or even corny movie out of it, but luckily they didn't.
An original road movie with a Felicity Huffman who plays a completely different role than in Desperate Housewives (also a much heavier voice, by the way). She does this very convincingly 
.
Anyone who wants to see a film with an original story/theme will certainly find what they are looking for here.

A road movie about a transsexual. How could this be exciting enough, I wondered. And it doesn't lapse into a caricature or into a kitschy comedy style Almodóvar... Fortunately, the makers focus on the main character, in the sense that as a viewer we also get to know Bree as a person and her problems. And not so much a general issue about how society treats transsexuals. It has become a beautiful personal film. As a road movie it might be a bit predictable, but a lot is also made up for by the beautiful interpretations of Felicity Huffman in particular, but also Kevin Zegers. Huge respect for Huffman in this role. Shame she didn't win an Oscar (which went to Reese Witherspoon in Walk the line, by the way).
The film has not become a generalization of transsexuality, but a personal portrait. And that's what makes the movie so good. Really enjoyed it and even though there are few surprises in the story itself, the course is interesting enough. Handsome movie!
