The enemy of the enemy is my friend, the LGBs must have thought when they went to support the miners. Thatcher was blamed for the mine closures, but it was perhaps unavoidable due to the fact that it was no longer economically viable. in Belgium they also closed during that period, also resulting in social unrest.

The combination of these two groups is far from obvious. Emancipation movements usually come from the left, but there are also right-wing LGBs who don't give a damn about the labor movement. Homophobia can also exist in working-class villages. Through the different storylines we see how mutual understanding gradually grows.

Social realism is combined with a good dose of humor. The synthpop provides the right 80s vibe - only Wham! was missing. The AIDS epidemic provides a bleak side.

Nice movie. I especially liked the atmosphere. The music, the dancing and the fun characters. I did not like the story, although I am very much for acceptance of homosexuality. Good acting. A sufficient one. 3.5*

Fascinating film about a subject that was completely unknown to me, let alone that a film has been made about it. Homosexuality was a big taboo at the time that the community did not want to have too much to do with. One trade unionist's speech, however, summed it up well. The miners were reached out by an unknown friend to go to war against a great powerful enemy that can only be defeated together. Slowly the two groups grow towards each other through the common goal.

The movie felt like a feel good movie and is quite light-hearted, a bit comical even at times. In addition, there are excellent performances by Imelda Staunton, Bill Nighy, George MacKay and Dominic West.

Based on real facts, but a bit romanticized, but that does the film somewhat well. Some clichés here and there, catchy songs and a light-hearted atmosphere make Pride an easily digestible film about a subject that caused quite a stir in the UK at the time. Nice to see once, but not as memorable as I initially thought.
