The comedian Coluche, who died much too young, made an indelible impression on me with his atypical role in this film. It is an impressive action drama about special friendships. The dialogues and the beautiful camera work lift this film to a high level. A nice supporting role also from Agnès Soral (Un Moment d'Égarement).

In the first part there is a lot of attention for the character drawing of two completely different people (stunningly well played by Coluche and Richard Anconina) who nevertheless come to a close friendship.

In the second part, the hard action dominates, a lot is explained and there is the remarkable interpretation of Agnès Soral.

The whole is a beautiful, fascinating film, well constructed, also mysterious about the main character, not without emotion and in my opinion one of the better works of Claude Berri (currently very popular with Arte).

Gloomy but rock solid. Those who don't know Coluche should know that in the 1980s he was one of the greatest comedians in France, known for his political satires and social criticism. This dressed in a clown suit and with a blush on the cheeks. Like putting Rowan Atkinson in a Lars von Trier movie.

Tchao Pantin is Coluche as never seen before... a depressed and lonely man who hides a painful past. He befriends a small-time drug dealer and proves fierce loyalty to the boy when he has trouble with the local crime scene. In the final scene where he sleeps with the girl Lola, you understand Lambert's actions that make the whole movie make sense. Very raw and dark, with characters who live close to the Parisian underworld, and despite presumably heavy backgrounds, still manage to come across as human and kind-hearted. A delightful crime drama featuring a Coluche who proved he was more than a clown.
