Wow! I enjoyed this way more than I expected!! I assume this is a B-movie, but despite that, it's still excellent!! The story is very simple yet satisfying, and the tension builds nicely. The cinematography is also quite good, as is the acting. Only the typical "oh well, don't worry so much" girlfriend is sometimes annoying.

This film will once again make you think about the (excessive) use of social media and all the associated devices we all have these days. Simply put, they're all open doors to the world, and any clever person can easily exploit them.

I have to admit, I caught myself regularly turning down the volume on my home theater system as the scary scenes rolled around, and secretly I didn't dare watch it. Especially that scene where she's lying in bed and then this guy appears in the doorway and slowly walks toward her bed... wow! And that music alone. I personally found it pretty intense! Finally, for once, no cheap jump scares, but just visually very strong.

All in all, not a classic, but definitely NOT disappointing. If you're a fan of the thriller and horror genre, this one definitely deserves a place on your bookshelf. And it certainly does Oh yeah; don't forget the final scene after about a minute of the credits; the police arrive (far too late), leaving a nice open ending.

Recommended and a well-deserved 3.5 stars!

Long-winded and without spice.

A film featuring live feeds from the attractive female victim's hacked smartphone, laptop, and game console. The voyeuristic images move by at a snail's pace. Not much happens. The sense of unease and menace the filmmaker likely intended to convey is only faintly present.

Still, it's intriguing to see the attractive lead actress's digital world so openly exposed. It's also intriguing to see how that open perspective in that closed and supposedly safe digital world can easily be abused and even lead to feelings of insecurity and a threatening situation in the non-virtual world. Not a real eye-opener, of course, but thanks to the film's design, the message comes across perfectly. Straightforward and without moralizing. I especially appreciate the latter.

The film isn't suspenseful. The precarious situation the stalked woman finds herself in doesn't translate to a similar feeling in the viewer. A sense of fear and menace doesn't really penetrate. Which is understandable, to some extent. We don't see anything particularly exciting unfolding in the footage. There's a lot of repetition of daily routines. That drags on and on. And although Ashley Benson, who takes up all the screen time, looks good, the film doesn't feel dragged out. Not a strong point for a film that's only 80 minutes long.

The film lacks action. It's too bland. It's unbalanced. The film lingers and stutters on, forgetting to add any real spice. Like some old-fashioned chopping to break up the monotony, for example.

A ratter is a person who uses remote access Trojans—viruses—to infiltrate someone's computer. In a secondary sense, they are also a rat, a filthy animal that can spread the plague.

Ashley Benson, best known for Pretty Little Liars, plays a college freshman who has moved from rural Wisconsin to the big city of New York. She longs for freedom, independence, and fun, but at the same time, danger lurks. In the age of modern telecommunications, Emma is constantly recording herself with her cell phone or webcam. A hacker could exploit this.

At first, there are some amusing scenes, such as when she's playing virtual tennis, but gradually the threat intensifies. She experiences a mixture of paranoia and claustrophobia. There are several suspects, most notably her jealous ex, Alex, but his denial sounds convincing. Ultimately, it appears to be an anonymous cybercriminal with a random victim.

What the viewer sees is found footage. It's a montage of images she shot herself and the "peeping tom"'s perspectives. Sometimes there's a split-screen shot with two different camera angles. By peering in, the viewer becomes a voyeur. It's a disturbing depiction of a modern form of crime.
