Only one more bombardment has to take place before the crew can go home. Good film about the crew of a bomber who carries out a final mission over enemy territory. The film is based on a true story during World War II. The first half has a somewhat too long build-up with clichéd characters. But this is made up for in the second half which consists of the mission and takes place pretty much entirely inside the plane (and this all looks good and quite realistic). A small 3.5 stars.

Somewhere halfway between propaganda film and realistic report, and in itself the balance has been found quite nicely. But a reasonable collection of clichés is piled up. Well, clichés are always based on reality itself, but still - it doesn't make it very exciting. It all starts somewhat well between the lines with the fellows who are introduced and all can go through a door together nicely. The propaganda man who makes a painful (and rather unbelievable) miss. And then we can go. Not right away, wait first.

Then the second part, much more exciting by itself. With a few, ahem, 'heroic' and tense moments, and that is delivered so strongly that you almost forget for a moment that it is a Hollywood production and therefore the ending is a given. And here again some unbelievable details in the course, but that too can be forgiven. Worse perhaps that the sharp edge is missing just a little too much. It wasn't that much fun - and perhaps we should also remember that it certainly wasn't on the ground. Quite a bit has been thrown flat - and not that I think the Germans or Japanese deserved any pity for that, they had started it themselves after all. But that doesn't make it any different.

Had this movie on my wish list for a long time but never seen it. Unfortunately on the English subs, but all in all quite doable. We can actually divide Memphis Belle into just two long pieces. The first part is, as so often, the base, with hope bla bla long live the fun with one more important mission to go in this case operation Bremen. Funny enough we don't see Germans. Except the planes in the sky. The best part of this movie is the second part when the operation actually starts. It all looks pretty decent for a 30 year old movie. The air battles and the drama that comes with it look good. A bit Americanized, but I still had a good time in this piece. This movie doesn't really interest me, but it's well filmed. I'm going to watch the documentary again. I thought the ending was funny with the bump as the funniest moment.

Movie 3.0 with the point up

Image 3.5/4.0 Blu-ray

Sound 3.5

Extras 4.0 including documentary!
