The soundtrack in particular is very good, but Elvis acts woodenly at times and then sublime in this very predictable and average work. An Elvis classic but definitely not his best.

The one with the jumping beans in his jeans

Quite an interesting and entertaining movie. His second movie and the first real starring role for Elvis. And I think he's doing fine. The rest of the film is carried by an experienced cast, with Wendell Corey and Lizabeth Scott leading the way. Scott was known as a noir icon and came back from acting retirement for this role. For me the first time I see her in color (technicolor). She really is an asset to the role she plays here.

The plot is well worked out and more or less (romanticized) taken from Elvis' life. With the plot of an upcoming singer and what comes with it. There's the obvious manager thing with Lizabeth Scott. And there's the fuss about the moral values of Elvis' performance, which was also going on in real life.

The tone of the film is that of a drama with light-hearted moments. Easily digestible. And of course there is the music that finishes it all off. What a showman Elvis was.
