Flaming Star plot

"CHOOSE!... Between your white father and your Kiowa mother !"

Nobody feels safe in Texas anymore. With the regularity of the clock, Indian warriors appear out of nowhere. They set fire to the farms and murder the inhabitants. Even the women and children are not spared. Until now, the Burton family was able to escape the dance of death. That Sams Burton's second wife Neddy is a Native American certainly has something to do with this. Buffalo Horn wants to team up with Pacer, the son of Sam and Neddy, to reconquer the land of the Indians together. The young man faces a heartbreaking choice.

Above average Western by Don Siegel with Presley in the role of a half-blood Indian. A masterpiece for a Presley film, a good one for a Siegel film, but as an end result just not good enough for cinephiles. Now cult and probably Presley's best along with King Creole.

A fine western beyond expectations. Even Elvis' acting is striking, in a positive sense. A very good story about racism and a lot of action and unexpected events.

I really enjoyed this western.

A dramatic role for Elvis and one of his best films so far in my opinion. Also one with a psychological/social undertone because of the theme of identity that is central here. Elvis plays a half-blood Native American and does so with conviction. He falls between 2 cultures, is difficult for whites and natives. According to Don Siegel, he played his best scene ever in this film: the moment when he angrily declares his love to Barbara Eden. It is fascinating that Elvis had Cherokee blood in his veins through one of his ancestors. Elvis movies and the parallels with his real life: it's a thing after all.
The singing Elvis is kept to an absolute minimum. We only hear him at the opening and closing credits with the title song, in addition to a period piece at the beginning of the film. Also striking that it is a film without a happy ending. The text of the title song basically spells out what's about to happen.
