The center of Paris. A frustrated boy throws a piece of paper into the lap of an illegal beggar. When an indignant witness tries to force him to apologize, a fierce argument ensues. The police intervene, with the result that the two ruffs have to go to the station and the illegal woman is deported from the country. This drama forms the intersection of the film. In the following, the story of those involved is told. Central to this is the aspiring actress Anne (Juliette Binoche).
