"You don't have a chance. Seize it!"

Frank is a drug dealer who does business in Copenhagen with his buddy Tonny. He hides his drugs with his girlfriend Vic, with whom he has a questionable relationship. One day he is approached for a drug deal by a Swede with whom he has been in prison. Frank in turn approaches his supplier Milo, to whom he already owed a considerable amount of money. Milo agrees anyway, but the police intervene during the deal. Frank is forced to dump the drugs into the water, but with that he only manages to stay out of the hands of the police. Once outside the office, he must quickly make choices: stay out of the hands of Milo and his brutal accomplices, cough up the money or take even more drastic measures...

Unlike his later, more visually exuberant works such as Drive (2011) and Only God Forgives (2013), the Pusher trilogy is very subdued. No lush images and colors galore. Refn filmed on a tight schedule and in natural light; it gives a certain spontaneity and authenticity. In the first film in particular, there is a focus on the monotonous existence of a small drug dealer. Frank and Tonny talk about sex and movies and begging for money from their squeezed junkie clients. And slowly they sink further and further into the quicksand that is urban Copenhagen. The movies are not love letters to the city. In The Dansh Girl (2015, Hooper) we saw a beautiful Copenhagen. Not here, we follow the tragic anti-heroes through dirty streets and dark alleys.

Bizarre and special at the same time. Saw Trainspotting the day before, which portrays the problems of the 'addict', a day later Pusher, who perfectly portrays the 'trader' in the corner.

Raw, direct, humorous (what Mikkelsen spews in that drugstore and is eating fries), special dialogues, and a long-forgotten image of bad music, ugly tracksuits and even uglier cars. Furthermore, a nice raw atmosphere that shows the filthy alleys and the vicious circle of squeezed junks and the hope of a big drug deal to gain more respect and more money. The kingdom of course collapses completely when the deal fails and everyone seems to be dealing with the betrayal and the 'dealer' himself is suddenly at the bottom of the food chains.

Nice raw and direct video. Check back soon for a final opinion.

Pusher is the lesser start of a strong trilogy. All the attention here falls on Milo. What a character, what an actor! In part three he is completely satisfied. The protagonist of this part doesn't do much for me.
