A film that is more drama than thriller. Looks more like a courtroom drama but still contains some moments of suspense. The story is good, but the execution is sometimes quite boring with, for example, the regular moments in the courtroom. Don johnson is the one who stands out in terms of acting and therefore plays his role well. Rebecca De Mornay also plays well but has to lose out to her opponent.

Good film in which a lawyer against her will defends a man accused of murdering his wife. Perhaps not exactly believable characters, but entertaining nonetheless. Especially the unusual lawyer-client relationship that arises and which is fun to play with (another plus point since they do not get into a relationship this time). Rebecca De Mornay and Don Johnson are well cast and the ending is also fine.

Sidney Lumet and Larry Cohen, it turned out to be an unexpected match made in heaven! Cohen's screenplay takes the lead, because Guilty as Sin has become an unusually sardonic and cartoonish pulp thriller for Lumets. With a downcast Don Johnson who is supposed to play an irresistible don juan, but rather drags himself through the film as an effeminate old charm singer. Some hysterical outbursts, sometimes quite over-the-top, culminating in Johnson preparing a disgusting-looking 'sandwich' with a butcher knife. What a wonderful premise too, the lawyer who, for deontological reasons, is not allowed to get rid of a difficult client. Fortunately, the OVB is not that strict! The whole is more like a cynical short story than a real film, but closes nicely with a teasing pirouette. Shore's soundtrack cuts in well, it's almost Hermannian, which, however, makes one wonder that someone like De Palma might have been more suitable for this scenario. During the denouement I thought back to the fever dream finale of Raising Cain, where the apparent TV thriller banality suddenly degenerates into a true inferno. Then one remains a bit hungry with that frugal Lumet. Or maybe I just have to appreciate his modesty. Lumet, who nevertheless ventured into a cautious burlesquery with films such as The Morning After and Family Business and also makes a sudden turn at the end of Guilty as Sin. The main character, a serious lawyer, her professional decorum is shattered by one mere scene, which at the same time gives her strength: her dangling ankles, absolute desperation, or an atypical weapon? Ius vigilantibus est!
