“You're a disgrace to depression.”
Excellent film about three people who all struggle with their own problems, but are stuck together due to circumstances. The catalyst for this is Melvin, a wonderful role by Jack Nicholson that one moment you sit looking at with vicarious shame, but the next moment manages to move you and make you laugh.
A man with OCD who can't bear the fact that his favorite waitress Carol (Helen Hunt) leaves and does everything in his power to get her back. And then there's Simon (Kinnear), an artist and homosexual who gets Melvin's worst curses thrown at him, but eventually accepts his help. Because Melvin starts out as a rude, headstrong and lonely man, but gets more and more out of his shell because of Simon, Carol and a dog. Perfectly acted by Nicholson. The film gets a bit out of hand at the end, but then you are already completely immersed in the story, and you are captivated by the colorful characters. Beautiful, funny and moving film.
